Avoiding the common mistakes buyers make at Zhongda Fabric Market
Zhongda is the fabric capital of Guangzhou, with roughly 50,000 vendors across dozens of buildings. It is also where buyers waste a day by turning up without a spec. This guide lists the mistakes we see repeatedly.
Treating it as one market
Zhongda is a district, not a market. There are dozens of multi-storey buildings and clusters, and no single entrance will show you the range. Arrive with a list of fabric categories (cotton knitted, polyester knitted, nylon activewear, lining, woven shirting) and the building that carries each.
A widely cited guide puts the vendor count around 50,000; treat this as an indicative scale figure rather than an audited count.
Skipping the South District
The South District (Nan District) concentrates plush, corduroy, faux suede, velvet and fur. Buyers looking for these categories often waste hours in the knitted-fabric buildings first.
Plan the visit by fabric family, then by building, not the other way around.
Showing up without a spec
Vendors quote and pack against a written spec. Composition, weight (gsm), width, finish, colour, and a physical or photo reference are the minimum.
Ambiguity is paid for afterwards, in re-cuts and rejected lots. A one-page spec sheet per fabric is the cheapest insurance you will buy.
Forgetting the handover details
Confirm packed width, roll length, gross weight, and packaging (roll or bale) before you pay, not after. Re-wrapping and re-consignment in Guangzhou are slow and visible on the invoice.
Ask for a marking sample of the exact dye lot and keep it with the order copy.
No consolidation plan
Fabric rolls are heavy and awkward. Line up your Guangzhou forwarder or a consolidation agent before you order, and bundle rolls from multiple buildings into one pickup.
For buyers continuing to other markets, do Zhongda first, then garment or bag markets later in the week.
We do not publish verified per-vendor pricing or inventory; confirm on the floor.
